Simple Software Restriction Policy is a very useful utility that makes it easier to implement software restriction polices that control what can be run on your system.
Using Group Policies in Windows operating systems since Windows XP, it has been possible to enforce software policies that would, for example, prevent software outside of certain directories from being run. For example, it could be set to allow all programs in "Program Files" to run, but would prevent applications from being run from the downloads folder.
